There are many challenges facing our park and recreation community today. These challenges provide us with an opportunity to better demonstrate how parks and recreation are critical to the quality of life in today’s society. Those of us who are fully vested in parks and recreation must work together to ensure this quality of life. We need your help as the time for action is now!
The National Recreation and Park Foundation (NRPF) is the ideal vehicle for such an effort with a purpose to support research, education, and programs for parks and recreation that better the lives of children, families, and communities. To date, the Foundation has already raised over $400,000. It is the goal of the Foundation to raise $1,000,000 over the next 2 years. The Foundation will primarily raise endowment money to ensure the longevity of the movement but will also allocate a small percentage of resources for specific current year projects through grants to NRPA. Since its inception a year and a half ago, the Foundation has made commitments to initiatives that fit its purpose by supporting the National Summit on Environmental Stewardship and the upcoming Summit on the Value of Play. It is through these grants that supporters will see their donations put to use.
The importance of the park and recreation movement to this country is more evident during these difficult economic times. It is more important now, than ever, for us all to support this movement. You can support this movement by making a contribution to the Foundation. Whether you are participating in the Foundation’s planned giving program, Corporate Donating opportunities, or other Individual Donating opportunities, all gift sizes are important as we seek to secure the highest level of participation possible.
